Apple is preparing to revamp its AirPods lineup in 2024, catering to both ends of the price spectrum. According to a report, the upcoming refresh will include two value-oriented AirPods editions and an update to the AirPods Max.
In an effort to refine its offerings and provide a more coherent lineup, Apple is making multiple changes to its AirPods range. Mark Gurman, in his “Power On” newsletter for Bloomberg, reaffirms previous claims about the lineup changes, further solidifying the reports from October.
The latest report suggests that Apple will introduce two versions of its lower-end AirPods, addressing a marketing challenge. The current third-generation model, priced at $179, has not performed as well as expected. Consumers find it underwhelming as it bears a resemblance to the AirPods Pro but lacks its advanced features. Moreover, it doesn’t offer significant improvements over the still-available second-generation model priced at $129.
For the fourth-generation AirPods, Apple plans to release two models, featuring updated designs and new cases with USB-C charging. The main distinction between the two models is that the higher-priced variant will include active noise cancellation, expanding this feature beyond the AirPods Pro.
The AirPods Max will also receive an update, albeit more subtly. Following the current trend, Apple is expected to incorporate USB-C connectivity and may introduce additional color options.
Furthermore, Apple is reportedly working on a software update that will introduce hearing aid functionality in 2024, as noted by Gurman.
While the AirPods Pro may not see any updates in 2024, there is a possibility of an update in 2025. Although features such as body temperature sensing and health tracking have been speculated, it is more likely that Apple will prioritize enhancing comfort for future iterations.
Apple’s plans for the AirPods lineup in 2024 indicate a commitment to meeting consumer demands and improving the overall user experience. With a focus on design, features, and affordability, Apple aims to solidify its position as a leader in the wireless earphone market.
